The following pictures were submitted by Fred Oliver. He raced his buggy back in November of 1955! He towed it all the way from Ft. Lauderdale across the Tamiami Trail. For those of you not familiar with the area, today (2001) that trip would take you at least 2½ - 3 hours driving, without towing. Notice (in the pictures) that "towing" meant "towing"! No trailer here! Back then all the buggies had to be "hunt ready". He had one of the few V8 powered buggies. 85hp. flat head Ford, two 4 speed transmissions, one ton Ford rear end. Dual 1700 x 20 rear tires, two wheel drive. Fred won his class and received a Coleman lantern and camping stove. Fred says, "man was I a proud 18 year old."
