Started built our own buggy in 2000
How we got our start I helped Lonnie& Eddie Chesser for 4 years prior to that. When Eddie took some time off Lonnie asked one day if I wanted to build one. I said why not. So I started to build one for the stock class& before it was done ( long story short) I was buiding a modified buggy. Since then we went thru the new buggy blues and are heading in the right direction.
Story Behind Name Wanted the number 22 but it was taken. So we took the number 222. It was said that this was a whole lot of 2's and I said yeah dueces wild. It kind of stuck and with every name & number that got brought it came to dueces wild
Best Part of Racing It is unique nobody else does it.
Worst Part of Racing It costs alot of money to own and operate one. Just like any other form of racing. RACING is just another way to spell MONEY!

Story Behind Name The name had been given by the original owner Jr. Penny who already had another buggy Lightning, so therefore the names were Thunder and Lightning!
Started I began racing in March 1992.  My younger brother Duane asked my father (Lloyd Culbreath) if it was OK for him to drag our 4 cylinder buggy Mr. Twister out of the weeds so to speak, get her running again and go racing after 4 or 5 years of sitting.  He said he didn't care as long as the race committee would let him race because he was only 17 years old at the time.  Even though he had not found out yet if they would even let him race he still relentlessly got the buggy out, fixed it up, tore down the motor to freshen it up again and had her purring like a kitten ready to go racing.  About 1 week before the races he was told he couldn't drive because he was not 18 yet, but he only had 2 months and he would have been 18.  So after getting upset about it he had asked a friend to drive it and he said, no, ask your sister.  When he did, I said no at first also because I had a 2 year old baby boy and I had been away from buggies for 4 years and had never even driven one.  After a day of kicking it around I finally said OK.  But I was so nervous I didn't know what to do or how to do it.  My dad said, just do what I say and you'll do just fine don't  be scared.  This buggy was not easy to drive either because it had no converter it was set up with direct drive that has a crows foot linking the flywheel directly to the tranny, no clutch on this setup.  And if you didn't shift at the correct RPMs at the right time, it  would stall every time you try to take off.  And that's very hard when you have to inch forward when lining up on the starting line.  I must have stalled it about 7 times trying to line up.  I felt so embarrassed I was shaking like a leaf.  And at that time there were not enough 4 cylinders entered to race that day so I had to race in the 6 cylinder class.  Now I'm really nervous.  But I did a pretty good job in that race.  I gave it my all but the buggy let me down  on the last turn before the Sippi hole for the checkered flag.  I was in second place gaining ground on the 1st place buggy then the wheel flexed and a piece of metal had popped off and got caught in the left rear chain and bound the wheel from turning.  So basically I had a one wheel wonder happening and as I crawled slowly to  the hole it went in but never crossed the finish line because it just would not pull itself out of the hole with one tire turning.  So that is the story of my first ride in the races!!
Best Part of Racing The adrenaline rush you get when sitting on stand by waiting to go on the line and then the thrill of side by side racing trying to be the first to get the checkered flag.
Worst Part of Racing
The cost of repairs when we don't make much money to start with and having a bad weekend by blowing up your motor that you just rebuilt last race that you blew up the race before.
Additional Comments
I would like to thank all the volunteers that give their time to put the shows together every race rain or shine! They really don’t get the credit they deserve. And then the fans for sticking around in the rain last May race when they could have not come out al all. And last all the drivers for putting on the best show I have seen in a long time, there were not many break downs and no accidents but one wild ride of the day by Eddie Chesser and his uncle Leonard. That was the most awesome display of driving I have ever seen in the 10 years I have been racing. He did what he had to do to keep it in the track and never let off the gas. It was every man for himself in that race and do what you got to do to WIN!! Eddie may have lost that race but he did prove to his uncle that he has the drive it takes to be out there racing against him, and maybe next time it will be Eddie in the winner’s circle!
